Storytelling That Connects: Jack Dyer

June 3, 2025

In conversation with Jack Dyer🕺 – Founder & CEO of Storytold

We live in digital times, with superfluous content increasingly generated by artificial intelligence. Authenticity and human-connection have become rare. This is where Jack Dyer, the founder of Storytold, stands out. In this exclusive interview with ALLIANCE FOR GOOD, we explore Jack’s vision and the transformative power of genuine connection, through story.

The Origin of Storytold

Jack’s journey began with an extraordinary realization. As a web designer, he consistently observed businesses struggling to communicate their true essence. “They were overly focused on marketing and sales talk, that didn’t connect with their audience,” he explains. Through in-depth conversations with executives and founders, he uncovered powerful stories that weren’t even being told. That disconnect inspired him to create Storytold: a company committed to helping businesses grow by telling real, visually compelling stories that reflect who they truly are. Mastering the art of emotional, human-centered storytelling isn’t an easy feat, but Jack has demonstrated that, with the right blend of creativity and curiosity, he is uniquely positioned to tell stories that are both impressive and impactful.

Why Storytelling Matters in Business Today

“The traditional marketing model just doesn’t cut it anymore,” Jack insists. It’s not about pushing products, services or features; it’s about emotional resonance. “We don’t buy with our heads, we buy with our hearts.” When people connect emotionally with a business or founder, loyalty follows. That’s the bridge storytelling builds.

Storytelling in the digital age is about consistency and vulnerability. “Everything, from fonts to logos to tone of voice, must align to form a holistic brand identity,” he clarifies. But beyond visual elements, it’s the message that matters. Instead of perfection, showcasing mistakes and failures makes a brand more human. “Perfect websites feel fake now. People want real stories. That’s what makes our websites different, they connect emotionally.”

Emotional Intelligence and the Inner Child

Storytelling has a vital role in fostering emotional intelligence, and Jack makes a compelling analogy. “Children are the most genuine beings. They have no filters. No preconceptions.” He believes tapping into our “inner child” is the key to honest communication. That authenticity has fueled the growth of Storytold, even though the company is just three months old. “It’s been a year and a half in the making, but the traction really started when I looked back into what drives me every day. I used to think it was just ‘doing great work’, but it’s more than that. My WHY is to help others get their story told. From when I was a child, my path to creating Storytold was already written. I just had to rediscover it.”

Staying Relevant in a Content-Saturated World

With the digital world overflowing with both AI and human-generated content, staying relevant is no small task. Jack’s approach is simple but effective: keep it real. “We dive deep into understanding a business’s essence and bring that truth to the surface.” This process ensures that Storytold remains aligned not just with what companies need, but also what their clients care about. That dual relevance is the secret sauce for success.

The toughest part of building Storytold was clarity at the beginning. “I’m building Storytold out of the hodge-podge mix of everything I’ve learned across a very non-linear career. From design, property, automotive, fintech, and education. It’s all taught valuable lessons.” Melding these experiences into a unified, storytelling-driven business model took time. “The biggest challenge was defining what Storytold actually is. But once we had that ‘aha’ moment, it all clicked. Because there’s one universal thing that connects every industry: Storytelling.”

Staying relevant also means finding the right balance in storytelling. As AI tools become more advanced, Jack warns against leaning too heavily on them. “AI can help generate ideas, but it can’t replace the human touch.” He notes how AI-written content is easily detected on platforms like LinkedIn. At Storytold, AI is used for brainstorming, but final content is crafted by a talented team of writers who ensure the voice remains deeply personal and authentic. “At most, it’s 3% AI, 97% human.” This is the differentiator at Storytold.

There are several storytelling influences, but Jack immediately recalls Star Wars. “Luke Skywalker’s hero’s journey, that’s the blueprint,” he laughs. In the business world, he cites the visionary leader Richard Branson as a source of great inspiration. “I may not know his full story, but his balance of global success and purpose-driven action is something I really admire.”

Beyond CEOs: Supporting High-Net-Worth Individuals

While Storytold mainly partners with founders and CEOs, Jack explains that his team also manages the digital presence of select high-net-worth individuals. “Yes, we’re deeply involved with a few HNW clients, including managing their LinkedIn profiles.” These are ongoing partnerships, not one-off transactions. “One client in particular is incredibly successful yet remains grounded and vulnerable. That’s why working with her is such a joy.” Jack went on to say that Storytold isn’t for everyone: “Our goal is to do meaningful work with a select group of partners. We’re very intentional about who we work with. You have to come prepared to be authentic. If you’re looking for ‘just another marketing team’ and all you care about are your metrics, you’re in the wrong place.”

What Makes a Story Successful

Success isn’t measured in metrics, it’s measured in impact. “Storytold will be a success when it’s not about us, but about the ripple effects we’ve created for others.” His vision is for the company to serve as a counterbalance to the dehumanizing effects of AI. “We’re advocating for real, human connection with your clients and your customers. That’s the story I want to be told.”

Looking Ahead: Storytold in 2030 and 2050

Jack envisions Storytold growing into a focused, agile team of around 8 to 10 people in the next 5 years. “We don’t want to scale for the sake of it. I’d love to keep our team small and focused, so we never stop caring about our partners.” Expansion into New York, California, and Europe is also on the horizon. “We already have clients there. Establishing a physical presence would be an amazing milestone.”

Fast-forward to 2050: Jack will be approaching retirement. He hopes to build a legacy and be remembered for spreading joy and genuine human connection. “One of our core values is ‘delight.’ I want people to enjoy working with us.” He hopes Storytold will be seen as a force that resisted the machine-driven future and preserved human-centered storytelling. “Think of The Matrix. If we can delay that dystopia for another generation, I’d consider that a win.”

“Listen up” All Storytellers

Jack adds, “I’m usually the one helping others tell their stories, so it is a rare treat to have my story told.” His advice is to “Be authentic, every time. Don’t just think about what you want from a message. Think about what value you can give to others. Share your mistakes. Be vulnerable. That’s how you form real connections.”

Jack Dyer’s mission with Storytold is refreshingly simple: tell stories that matter and that can be understood. Amidst the noise of artificiality, he’s doubling down firmly on human emotion and connection. Whether you’re a founder, creative professional, HNWI, or simply someone with a story to tell, his advice is clear: “Start from the heart, and your story will be sensational for clients and for employees alike.”
