Just Do It Support Center Association: Help Is Here
May 26, 2025
In Conversation with Ivan-Oleksandr Yakymiv, Vice President
The Just Do It Support Center Association (SCA “JUST DO IT”) was founded in March 2022 in response to the war between Ukraine and Russia, by a group of eight passionate individuals from Poland and Ukraine. Their mission is to assist refugees fleeing the violence by providing essential services such as housing and food as well as legal and psychological support. Over the past few years, the organization has grown significantly, expanding its operations across Europe and supporting thousands of people in need.
A Community Built on Volunteering
One of the core values of SCA “JUST DO IT” is the power of volunteering. From the very beginning, the people receiving assistance wanted to give back. This spirit of solidarity led to the creation of a community where refugees, volunteers, and local residents could come together to support each other. This initiative, built on the motto “Helping Each Other,” has not only assisted countless individuals but has also fostered a sense of unity and community. It has become clear that, in times of crisis, people can come together with a common purpose and with the will to make a difference.
SCA “JUST DO IT” has been able to expand its services and provide resources that go well beyond basic needs, such as workshops, cultural events, and educational programs to help refugees adapt to their new environment. In addition to addressing immediate needs, the objective is to create a lasting impact by promoting intercultural understanding and the values of empathy, respect, and mutual support.
The Road Ahead: Growth, Technology and New Challenges
Looking ahead, there are numerous opportunities to further enhance impact. One of the key goals is to establish an international volunteer platform that will facilitate effective coordination of aid and engagement of volunteers across borders. SCA “JUST DO IT” has already made progress by implementing its own mobile app, which has streamlined operations and enabled volunteers to conduct online meetings and make quick decisions. This digital tool has been a game-changer, expediting the work and positioning SCA “JUST DO IT” as pioneers among the Polish non-profits in introducing modern data driven technological solutions.
However, financial stability remains a significant concern, as humanitarian efforts demand consistent and substantial funding. SCA “JUST DO IT” is constantly working to secure new funding sources to maintain activities and expand its reach. Additionally, managing a large and diverse volunteer network, particularly as they scale up efforts across different countries, presents logistical hurdles. Coordinating volunteers across various legal and cultural contexts needs careful planning, preparedness for contingencies and communication. Another challenge is navigating the legal and regulatory landscape related to volunteering and humanitarian aid, which has seen significant changes.
Priorities: Education, Health and Social Engagement
At SCA “JUST DO IT,” three core priorities have been identified as social education, promoting healthy food and increasing social engagement through volunteering.
- Social Education: the growing trend of superficial content that undermines the value of education and critical thinking is deeply concerning. The first priority is to promote accessible education that is conducive to intellectual growth, and the ability to analyze and process information effectively. Critical thinking can help individuals resist misinformation.
- Healthy Food: A healthy society is a strong society, and everyone must work hand in hand to promote the production and consumption of healthy food. By supporting initiatives that provide access to nutritious meals and through educational programs that raise awareness about healthy eating, it is possible to prevent lifestyle diseases and improve overall public health. Ultimately, healthy food choices will reduce healthcare costs and lead to a more resilient, productive society.
- Volunteering and Social Engagement: Volunteering is more than providing support and assistance, it is about shaping attitudes and behavior that are essential in times of crisis. When people engage in their communities, they help build stronger, more cohesive societies with greater trust and confidence. Volunteering also supports the role of state institutions, particularly when managing a crisis, allowing governments to respond quickly to urgent needs.
A Growing Global Community
Since its inception, SCA “JUST DO IT” has accomplished several milestones. With 81,000 active members and 560 volunteers across 20 EU countries, they have become a powerful force for Good providing help on a large scale. Over 300 people have registered for the crisis volunteer course, which includes a monthly online training session and a practical component, providing participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to support others in times of crisis.
A network has been built at national and international levels which includes partnerships with government organizations and other public entities. This broad base of support ensures that efforts are sustainable as projects have lasting impact.
Defining Success: A Personal Reflection
For Ivan-Oleksandr Yakymiv, success is not defined by personal achievements but by the positive impact he leaves on others and society as a whole. True success is about contributing to something larger than oneself, forging meaningful relationships, and leaving a legacy that improves the lives of others.
Over the horizon
Looking forward, Ivan-Oleksandr Yakymiv is committed to building a future that is sustainable, inclusive, and focused on the long-term well-being of society. He believes that it is important to take a longer-term approach to planning, to ensure that some of the challenges that future generations will face may begin to be addressed now. A sustainable society is one where progress is balanced with respect for diversity, the dignity of human life, and the protection of the environment.
At SCA “JUST DO IT,” the focus isn’t just on helping those in need today, it is about building the foundation for a better tomorrow. By empowering people, fostering solidarity, and promoting sustainable practices, he believes that we can create a world that is more connected, collaborative and compassionate.
